Zoë LeBlanc de Smith (b. 1994, Kalamazoo, USA) is a painter based in Barcelona, Spain. Working primarily with oil on canvas, she also employs non-traditional surfaces such as high-visibility fabric, mylar, black linen, and wigs. She is best known for her dreamlike and uncanny portraiture sourced from images taken by the artist of Barcelonian nightlife, highlighting the ubiquity of artificial illumination in today’s world.
She earned a BFA and teaching certificate in Art Education from Michigan State University (USA) in 2016 and 2018 respectively, and a post-graduate diploma in Studio Art from Metafora Studio Arts (Spain) in 2022. She has exhibited in galleries, cultural hubs, and artist-run spaces in Barcelona including Àngels Barcelona - Espai 2, Espai Cenit, Perros Mediterráneos, and Cascadas Art Space, in Paris at Yellowcube Gallery, in the US at Robin Theater and Scene Metrospace, as well as organized exhibitions with her collective, TBD Art, in apartments and art studios in Barcelona. Her work is part of the student collection at the Kresge Art Center at Michigan State University. Since April of 2024, she has been an artist-in-residence at Casa RARO in El Born neighborhood of Barcelona.
